Hi, I'm trying to add the R2 features to my existing SMS 2003 SP3
server, but running into a wall when the Custom Updates Publishing
Tool installer is asking for the SQL server information.

The database is stored on a separate machine that we use for several
applications, each with their own databases. The server is located in
the same subnet as the SMS server, and the SMS server is functioning
normally.

The installer asks for the Remote SQL Server name and Instance name.
I enter the SQL Server's NETBIOS name, and leave the Instance blank
(the SQL Server is 2000, I believe). I immediately get a message
saying "Unable to verify the database connection with the provided
information." I know I am typing the machine name correctly. I've
tried entering it as \\SERVER instead of SERVER, and while it pauses
after I click Next, I eventually get the same error. I've tried
entering the database name in the Instance blank, but that doesn't
help either. I've gone and added SPN's for the database server to fix
a problem I had a long time ago. I don't have any idea what else to
try. I'd like to get this working so I could automate Office 2007
installs.

HELP!!!


R2 doesn't actually include sp2, it builts on top. I don't think sp3 should be a show stopper here.
