I'm in the planning stages for an implementation of SMS 2003 and am
curious about the relationship of SMS Server and Client components in
relation to AMD chipsets. In the "Microsoft Systems Management Server
2003 Administrator's Companion" it indicates that the SMS 2003 Server
components can only be instaled on an Intel based chipset, however
Microsoft's own web site doesn't put that limitation on the hardware
requirements. So what gives? I've searched around and haven't come up
with anything one way or the other.
When you investigate system requirements for SMS 2003; look closely at the
supported operating system platforms, not the chipsets. SMS 2003 site
systems do not currently run on x64 server platforms. So, if you are talking
AMD processors that are running Windows Server 2003 x64 platform, SMS 2003
would not work in that environment.
