Re: Password required for Reports

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Saw nothing in the security log about loggon/logoff.
I found no sms entry in the Root> for any of my SMS servers. Could this be
a 2.0 entry that is not made for 2003? I have servers that are working
correctly and don't have the entry.

Rebooted at least once a day since this happened.

Can't run the report from the server (wants user ID and password).
No errors in the server logs.
smsprov.log - StatusMessage.MessageID, StatusMessage.ModuleName,
StatusMessage.RecordID, StatusMessage.Severity, StatusMessage.SiteCode,
StatusMessage.TopLevelSiteCode, StatusMessage.Win32Error from SMS_StatMsg as
StatusMessage join SMS_R_System as System on
StatusMessage.MachineName=System.NetbiosName join SMS_Site as Site on
StatusMessage.SiteCode=Site.SiteCode where (Site.Version like "2.5%")
(This is not the entire log just the only error?)

Reapplied security rights - no luck
Not sure what you mean by reading the SMS keys in WMI - more information
please

Thanks

JC,
Thanks for the input but I've already checked all those and that's what's
driving me NUTS!! All the permissions are correct, nothing was changed, no
updates were made other than the monthly security patches, it just started
asking for a user id and password!!

We are running SMS 2003 w/SP2 on Server 2003 SP1. Three days ago we could
access our reports with no problems then suddenly two days ago it started
prompting for a user name and password and nothing we put in works. I have
read all the inputs from the group I could find and tried all the fixed that
were mentioned but none work. The admins are all running XP Pro sp2 with IE7
and yes it was working with IE7. I have another workstation with IE6 that I
brought up to see if it was an IE7 problem but it asks for a user ID and
password also. I really need to get this fixed as we are in the middle of a
major upgrade involving 8 cities.

Hey Stan,

I'm guessing that you tried the your local admin account as well as
your own domain username/pass? Also in the security settings make
sure that all users have rights to view the reports. Also, take a
look at the SMSreporting_xxx web directory permissions, and the
directory security (on ours integrated windows authenication is the
only one checked).

What happens if you try to access teh report from the SMS server? Did
you check the Security log on the SMS server for any errors? Did you
check the smsprov.log for errors? Did you try to un-installing the
patch on a machine to see if it corrects the problem? Di you re-apply
the security rights for the SMS report in the SMS console? Did you
check to see if you read the SMS keys in WMI?

No errors in the Server security log..... You should see something in
the security log loggon/logoff etc....

What i mean about WMI is sometime the WMI go nuts and the security
permision on WMI get corrupt.

So my Computer> manage> WMI Control> Properties> security> Root>sms
and sms>site_yoursitecode

Your SMS admin group should have permissions here, a good indication
that there is a problem is that when you open this up it take a long
time to read the keys.

PS When was the last time you rebooted?
