We currently have SMS 2003 SP2 installed and are moving to a direct

you mean moving from a collection direct membership rules to
collection queries rules?
My question is when SMS creates
a new entry and marks the original as obsolete because of rebuilds or
what have you will SMS be smart enough to update the workstation
ResourseID in the collection with the new one it just created?
or are
we going to have to delete the SMS object every time we rebuild a
workstation and ad the workstation back to the collections with the new
ResourceID?
direct membership yes you'll have to manage the membership each time,
via a query no as you can specify the machine name in the query
instead of the resourceID being used.
