Re: "Remote Tools Agent Not Found"

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Kim,

Thanks for your reply. I downloaded the tool and ran:

portqry -n (computername) -o 2702,2703 -p both

Both TCP ports came back with: FILTERED
Both UDP ports came back with: LISTENING or FILTERED

I think that's good, listening means it's not blocked, right?

Try downloading portqry from the microsoft website.
If a client fails verify whether you can portquery port 2702 and 2703.

We have SMS2003 SP2 with all Advanced Clients. Remote tools Client
Agent is enabled and works on most machines. All clients have Windows
Firewall disabled.

My techs have been complaining that they frequently get the "Remote
Tools Agent not found" message when trying to launch Remote Tools from
the admin console. I have also had them try running REMOTE.EXE and
punching in the machine's IP address. They get the same error by IP
address.

If I look in Control Panel, the Remote Tools agent is "Enabled". All
other components are installed and enabled. The machines report
inventory just fine. The client can discover the site if I hit the
Discover button (advanced tab)

This is a real problem for me because we are soon going to force our
techs to stop using Dameware to remote control. But, for all these
clients, Dameware can remote control them when SMS can't.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
