Dead Distribution Point

I have an SMS 2003 site with a failed site system that was a distribution point. At this time I do not have the hardware to bring it back to life, and would like to remove it from our hierarchy to cut down on the status errors and warnings.

Of course, simply removing it as a distribution point in the package records has resulted in numerous errors about how the various packages can't be removed from the distribution point!

Where do I start to clean out the database to remove the records of that site system so that the distribution manager stops trying to remove the old packages?

TIA.
