The log file that you are probably looking for is FileSystemFile.log. This
is the log file of the WMI provider for the FileSystemFile class in the
root\ccm\invagt namespace.
The inventory agent log is InventoryAgent.log. This is the agent that is
responsible interpreting the Software Inventory policy from the MP, scanning
the drive (by calling querying the FileSytemFile class), and reporting the
results back to the MP.

I wanted to do some troubleshooting on software inventory on a certain
machine but I could not find fsinvprovider.log under the ccm\logs folder.
I
checked other machines and realized that this particular log file is not
present on any machines. We are using SMS 2003 SP1 Advnaced Clients. We've
been using this since 2004, however, we rarely use software inventory for
reporting purposes, the reason why I just found out this dilemmma. Our
Software Inventory Agent seems to run as scheduled every week. How do I
get
this particular log file to appear in the Logs folder?
Thanks
