Hi Steve. Thanks for you replies.
Comment in reference to my original questions:
1. I agree that IIS traffic would decrease but I wonder about the hit
on the SMS DB now that all that communication between it and the MP is
over the network. I guess I'm weighing up the reduction of IIS hits
against the increase of SQL hits and wondering if we could be improving
IIS performance but making SQL more sluggish?
2. I can only find a very small piece of information in Microsoft's
documentation that refers to the choices one can make with NLB MPs and
the SMS DB. It's about a paragraph. I can't help but wonder that there
must be more documentation somewhere? I can kind of understand the
choices it gives but it seems very abstract.
3. I was specifically looking to see if Distribution Points can be
NLB'd. Doesn't look like it me thinks.
In a way I'm surprised that we need to NLB our MPs given that a site
server is supposed to support 10,000 clients + whereas we have only got
6,000 at best although our site server is doing everything currently.
Of course, Microsoft are usually out on their estimations. I do feel
that NLB MPs is a good idea in that it spreads the load better and adds
more resilience.
