SMS service account permissions?

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hi all,
I'm having problems successfully creating a package that has source
files on a server other than my SMS site server... I'm able to create
the package but after that, when I go look at it's status, there is a
message saying dist mgr failed to access source dir. Error 5, access
is denied (complete message below).

We have a pretty simple site, 1 server and it's the DP, in advanced
security mode. Only 1 domain, approx 250 clients.

The error messages mention the smsservice account so (per S&P- SMS 2003
Security.DOC) I've granted oppsms$ <--server - read & execute perms
over the share that has the folder with with the source files in it but
that didn't seem to make a diff. Same error messages.

here are the error messages:

from DISTMGR.log:

~Failed to process package MPL0005A after 2 retries, will retry 98 more
times

from system status -> package status
SMS Distribution Manager failed to access the source directory
"\\Mpl46ps\Programs\LG Gold" for package "MPL0005A". The operating
system reported error 5: Access is denied. Possible cause: SMS
Distribution Manager does not have sufficient rights to the package
source directory. Solution: Verify that the SMS Service account has at
least Read access to the directory you specify as the package source
directory.

anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!
