Hi Mark,
Thank you for posting.
This is Lee and I am glad to meet you in the newsgroup.
Based on your description, my understanding of the issue is:
The SMS site server is installed on a Windows 2003 server.
After you upgraded the Windows 2003 to Windows 2003 SP1, you found the
users cannot use the remote SMS admin console to connect to the site server.
If I have misunderstood your concern, please let me know.
This is a common issue in Windows 2003 because of some security enhancement
in Windows 2003 Sp1.
Regarding this issue, let us change the following settings on the Windows
2003 Sp1 to let the SMS admin console to work again:
On Windows 2003 SP1 SMS server
1. Click "Start", point to "Administrative Tools", and then click
"Computer Management".
2. Expand "Local Users and Groups", and then click "Groups".
3. Double-click "Distributed COM Users", and then click "Add".
4. Add the Help Desk Support's account then click "OK" two times.
Note:
1. If the Windows 2003 SP1 SMS server is a DC, the "Distributed COM Users"
will be a domain user group instead.
You need to add the Help Desk Support's account to this domain user
group. Then please check the issue again.
2. Make sure the firewall had been disabled on the Windows 2003 Sp1.
If the issue persists after you had made the above changes, please send me
the following log files to check it further:
1. On the remote client computer, locate the following folder:
C:\smsadmin\logs and send me the "adminui" file in this folder
2. On a site server, locate the following folder:
c:\sms\logs and send me the smsprov.log file in this folder
You can send all the files to leelili@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
3. On the client computer. Click Start, click Run, and then type "wbemtest"
(without the quotation marks).
Click Connect, type "\\Your SMS site server
name\root\sms\site_yoursitecodename " (without the quotation marks), and
then click Login.
(For exmaple: \\LOY-SMS-TOR1\root\sms\site_LOY)
Click Enum Classes, click Recursive, and then click OK In the Query Result
list, double-click SMS_Site.
Please let me know if you will get any error message in the above steps or
not. If yes, please describe the error message as detail as possbile.
I will wait for your update. Have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Lee Li
