Hi,
Thank you for posting.
This is Lee and I am glad to meet you in the newsgroup.
To this issue, I would like to describe the mechanism of MP locating in SMS
in more detail for you:
In an Active Directory environment, the client queries Active Directory for
a resident management point. It does this by searching the Active Directory
global catalog for a site code, which has been registered (by a site
server) with a matching Active Directory site name or IP address range. If
the client does not find a resident management point or it reverts to the
assigned site because the required content is not available at the local
site, then the client uses the site code of its assigned site.
The client makes a special call to determine whether it is within the
boundaries of a secondary site of its assigned site with a proxy management
point. If it is within the boundary, the client finds the proxy management
point address and use it as MP.
The Advanced Client sends package source location requests to its resident
management point. All other requests and data, including Advanced Client
policy requests, inventory data, and status messages, are sent to the proxy
management point if one exists or to the assigned management point if a
proxy management point does not exist.
Based on your assumption, only the Secondary site is down .
This means the client computer can still get the Ip of the proxy management
from the AD.
So at that time, the client computer will still use the Secondary site
which had been down as its proxy MP.
It will send the Client policy requests to the proxy MP, but at this time,
the server is down, so it will not send a response back to the client.
But the client will not switch to the MP on the primary site server, it
will keep sending the request to the proxy management.
After you had removed boundary for that network, the client computer cannot
obtain a MP from the AD.
So it will report no MP cannot be found and it will not send the requet to
the Secondary site server any more.
Hope the above information helps. Have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Lee Li
