In the SMS 2.0 days, there was a knowledge base article or a security white
paper that recommended creating a second sms service account. Say you're
running under smssvc1, you'd need to run the site reset on each site that
uses the account, and swap it to smssvc2. Once you verify that all of the
services are properly running, you can change the password on smssvc1. Then
next time you sequence between smssvc2 back to smssvc1.
An even better solution -- implement SMS 2003 with advanced security and
advanced clients; and throw those accounts away!
