Unable to install SMS 2.0 SP5 client on new server

Has anyone ever seen an installation of the SMS client uninstall itself
from a server and remove all the logs as well? This is happening to me
and I'm perplexed.

We have a new subnet that a server is sitting on. This is a NT4 SP6a
member server. I updated the site boundaries in SMS and the Network
discovery properties to include the new subnet. I scheduled a network
discovery to run last night and when I came in, the new server was not
discovered, even after updating & refreshing the collections. I then
went to manually install the SMS agent and thought it was going well
till it uninstalled itself and removed the logs!!! So I'm not sure how
or why this is happening.

I'm not seeing anything in the sms component logs but I may have missed
something.
Any thoughts on how to discover the issue and resolve it?
