Luke:
Thanks for your help. As a result of following your DDR
troubleshooting steps I discovered that forcing the "discovery data
collection cycle from the Client UI" remedied the problem I was having
with OSC6598. I watched the DDR go through its entire cycle only to
find that it actually worked. [insert cheering crowd noise here]
So according to my understanding of the SMS config here are some
thoughts that I have related to savings others from having the same
problems.
1) It would seem that forcing the client install would also force
the DDR to be processed. I probably reinstalled the client 10 times on
the affected desktop.
2) To simplify my setup I wrongly figured that enabling only one
discovery method would be sufficient. As it turns out, by my
calculation, Heartbeat Discovery is really not optional. Heartbeat
seems to play a different role than the other discovery methods. In
retrospect I think my duplicate entries were being created by "Network
Discovery"... but I am not going to reenable it to find out.
3) Though I have a better understanding now of "roaming boundaries".
Semantically "roaming" to me implies to be outside of the site
boundary. The concept of a subnet boundary already implies roaming
(think cows inside a fence). Seems like boundaries could be described
a little better (yes I know about the white paper, I am just providing
feedback).
Thanks for your help.
