    The client will download all the pacthes(in the patch package that you
    created) and not just the patches which are applicable to the machines. So
    what you are seeing is expected. But of all the pacthes downloaded only
    those are applied, which are actually applicable to the machines.
    If you set the advertisement to run from the DP then as you said only the
    correct patch will be attempted.
    So in your mixed enterprise environment with varying versions of IE as yours
    when you approve patches for say KB 832894, the clients will install only
    the patches which are applicable to the installed version of IE in them,
    rest of the patches would be ignored and not attempted.

    On a side note, its not the scanwrapper component that downloads the
    pacthes, the client framework is responsible for that. Scanwrapper is
    responsible for just the scan part.
