I'm having the same issue, but I've not found how can I sort it out.

I am distributing the advanced client by creating a Group Policy which
points to the Client.MSI file, the site assignment is "auto" on my
site servers so I expect the client to update it's configuration
settings and discover the nearest site which it should be assigned to.

After the advanced client has been installed on a machine it has no
site assignment at all, and it seems it isn't getting an assignment
too.

When I manually click on "Discover" it will find the right site wich
it is assigned to, so that works fine.

Why doesn't the client get assigned to a site autmatically ?

what is the way I should rollout the advanced client through a GPO ?

Everything is OK if I hit DISCOVER button or if I do installation of
advanced clients by Push Installation Method.
