Is it two columns in the Word file? Try this, create a text box, right-click,
click *change text*, click *text file*, browse to the file. Publisher will
create pages and text boxes.
Is the result in columns now?

when I import a 40 page word document into publisher 2003 it splits each
page in to 2 columns even though the one column feature is checked - how do I
get publisher to stop splitting each page in to 2 columns?
.
