From a licensing point of view, you're allowed to do what you want on a single machine (provided you don't multiboot). Activation might make things slightly hairier, but if the hardware doesn't change, your installation ID (hopefully) won't change, so the activation server will continue to give you codes. Even if it fails, you should be able to use phone activation.
