Thanks Thomboy. But the real satisfaction will be when you post back and say
that your site is up and running again. Even though I won't see your smile,
I will imagine it.

Will do! Sometimes the road to higher ground takes some walking in the
valleys, but that is the value of experience -- the best teacher.
Isn't it great that your experiences can help so many people in need?
I also look for ways to help people around me, not with technology, but
help
just the same. There is no better feeling than to see someone smile when
they have been trying to solve a problem for days, months, or even years
that
you can help them overcome with a few suggestions. It smooths out the
hills
and valleys and makes life more livable.
You done good, Gunga Din.

OK. It sounds like I mixed up which computer you were using, but the
suggestions about how to Publish to the Web and changing the options in
Pub
2003 still apply. Also, the FTP uploading process should be the same on
both
computers using FileZilla. There are some other differences between 2003
and
2007 so plan on trying to open your Pub file on the Pub 2003 machine,
publishing the files, and testing against the files you produce with
2007. I
don't think there will be substantial differences, but you should do this
while you still have access to both computers. Also be sure to backup
your
Pub file before you open it in Pub 2003. Rename it if you have to, but
make
note somehow that it is your original. Pub 2003 and 2007 files are
supposed
to be interchangeable, but I have read of cases where they weren't so you
might as well take a few precautions. I originally feared you were
opening
your html files in Publisher and had not saved the original Pub file, and
that would have created a big job for you rebuilding the site. After get
everything up and running and before you leave for Washington, you might
even consider uploading a backup copy of your Pub file to your web host
for
safe keeping and access if you need it. Just sayn'...
I don't know what files are in the Godaddy 'stats' folder, but Godaddy
does
need to rebuild/repair your ftp site. Hopefully it will be clear from
your
request and you will be up and running soon.
You are welcome...good luck and yes, let us know how it works out.

David, Viola, we are now on the same page, and your verbiage has solved
all
my problems, except for doing some very stupid things. Now, however, I
can
see that the ftp.lch-hoa.com folder contains GoDaddy files to make the
crossover work and to enable my "index_files" and the "index.htm"
folder
to
load at the webhost site, GoDaddy, using FileZilla.
So far all my work has been done using Office 2007 and VISTAr, but I
expect
to use Office 2003 and Windows XP when I take my laptop back to
Washington
State to keep the website updated.
Answer to your first question, no I cannot log on to my website. When
I
or
anyone else tries, the following message appears:
------------------------------
The page you tried to access does not exist on this server. This page
may
not exist due to the following reasons:
1. You are the owner of this web site and you have not uploaded (or
incorrectly uploaded) your web site. For information on uploading your
web
site using FTP client software or web design software, click here for
FTP
Upload Information.
2. The URL that you have entered in your browser is incorrect. Please
re-enter the URL and try again.
3. The Link that you clicked on incorrectly points to this page. Please
contact the owner of this web site to inform them of this situation.
------------------------------
I HAVE ALWAYS USED Vista, AND OFFICE 2007, and this is where I may have
"created a 'network place' which was (as you said) both the 'ftp
folder'
and
the 'www folder.' "
This is going to sound crazy, but I only deleted the "index_files," the
"index.htm" file, and the "stats" file from the ftp.lcn-hoa.com root
directory, and left the others in place, the webhost site went away.
The
"stats" file must be an essential GoDaddy entry, which is needed to
keep
the
website working. What I am saying is that all three are GoDaddy files
are
essential: _db_backups, aspnet_client, and stats, which is the only
GoDaddy
file I deleted with HOA Website Files (inside of which must have been
index_files and index.htm). Am I making any sense to you?
Now, back to another of your questions: can you still logon to your FTP
site:
ftp.lan-hoa.com with FileZilla? Are those '_db_backups',
'aspnet_client'
and 'stats' folders gone?
MY RESPONSE: I cannot log onto the FTP site, and when I reach the
FileZilla
screen, I cannot see any of the GoDaddy created files mentioned in your
question. So, contacting GoDaddy may be the right fix and to ask them
to
replace those three files so when I drag the "index_files" and
"index.htm"
onto the right side of the FileZilla screen, they will load properly,
and
the
website will be up and running again.
Your suggestion follows: You don't need to explain how you goofed up,
just
tell them you did and provide them with your domain name, the user ID
or
name
and your password. They will reinstall all these default folders and
files
and you can start fresh.
MY RESPONSE: I plan to do this immediately after I log off from the
Publisher Office Online website.
Your last suggestion follows: Now I should clarify something. You
created
a
folder on your computer called "HOA Website Files". This is where you
directed your Publisher web files (the index.htm file and index_files
folder). Put that folder either on your Desktop or somewhere you can
easily
find it. When you upload again, upload *just* the Publisher webfiles,
*not*
the whole 'HOA Website Files' folder. The index.htm file and
index_files
folder should be uploaded to the same directory and at the same level
as
the
'_db_backups', 'aspnet_client' and the 'stats' folders.
MY RESPONSE: The only thing in the HOA Website files folder are the
two
files "index_files" and "index.htm" so highlighting and dragging them
into
the ftp.lch-hoa.com folder should be OK, but even though I have
examined
the
contents of this folder (HOA Website Files) I cannot be 100% sure that
there
aren't hidden files.
YOur next suggestion follows: I think you may have been making another
mistake with Publisher 2003. After you opened your Publisher file and
were
ready to publish your web files, you said that you did a ""Save a web
page".
If you do this Publisher 2003 creates what is called 'unfiltered' or
'rich'
files, that are bloated with Office tags and such. Instead when you are
ready
to publish go to File 'Publish to the Web' and direct your files to the
'HOA
Website Files' folder on your computer. This will produce filtered
files
in
both Pub 2003 and 2007. Then using FileZilla upload the index.htm file
and
the index_files folder to your FTP site: ftp.lan-hoa.com and you should
be
good to go.
MY RESPONSE: Early in my reply to your questions and solutions, I
mentioned
that I have only used Office 2007 and VISTA, but have not yet used
WinXP
nor
Office 2003. I am sure that what you say above will be essential to
making
me able to use Office 2003 and XP to make modications to my website
easily.
Way too much verbiage, and I know that I repeated my self twice, but at
least now we are using the same language, and for that I am eternally
grateful.
OK, my friend, I think the chemo (your advice and help) worked, and I
am
disease free or should I say almost with a few changes :-)
After I make all the changes, and contact GoDaddy, i will give you an
update
so I can put these errors behind me. Didn't Ringo Starr once have a
song,
titled, "with a little help from my friends?"
If so, you have earned that rank, a friend indeed.

Thomboy,
First of all, you can probably never write too many words describing
your
problems or issues. Quite the opposite is usually true, leaving us to
guess
what the poster is asking. In fact with this follow up post I think I
now
may know what is going on, and I have good news and bad news...but not
that
bad.
I think the 'folders' you are seeing on your C drive were the webhost
folders and files. I don't know if I can explain this really well, but
with
your XP machine you probably at some point in time created a 'network
place'
which was both the 'ftp folder' and the 'www folder'. When you looked
inside
those folders you saw the files and folders on your host server or
drive.
That is why you saw the non-Publisher folders '_db_backups',
'aspnet_client'
and 'stats'. These are webhost folders that contain files and such
that
control and monitor your website. Your Publisher web files (index.htm
and
the index_files folder) should be at the same level as these GoDaddy
folders. This is your root directory. Your FTP site is ftp.lan-hoa.com
.When
you deleted all those folders you not only deleted your Pub web files
but
also all of the host files and folders. What you should have done was
to
delete *only* the index.htm file and the index_files folder.
So the first question I have is can you still logon to your FTP site:
ftp.lan-hoa.com with FileZilla? Are those '_db_backups',
'aspnet_client'
and 'stats' folders gone? If not then you can simply upload new
Publisher
web files. If you can't log on with FileZilla or the GoDaddy folders
are
gone then the first thing you will need to do is contact GoDaddy
support,
and tell them that you think you accidentally deleted all their files
and
folders in your FTP site and you need them to set up your site again.
You
don't need to explain how you goofed up, just tell them you did and
provide
them with your domain name, the user ID or name and your password.
They
will
reinstall all these default folders and files and you can start fresh.
I am done with the bad news.
Once they notify you that they have fixed things, you will be ready to
upload fresh files. The good news is that you already know how to use
FileZilla. The reason this is good news is that the FTP uploading
process
changed from Windows XP to Windows Vista, but by using FileZilla the
FTP
uploading process will be the same on both machines. Try connecting to
your
site using FileZilla. If you can't you may have to go through the
setup
process you did when you first setup things up with FileZilla. But
once
they
have fixed your site you should be able to logon to your site and see
the
three folders in your root directory/folder again.
Now I should clarify something. You created a folder on your computer
called
"HOA Website Files". This is where you directed your Publisher web
files
(the index.htm file and index_files folder). Put that folder either on
your
Desktop or somewhere you can easily find it. When you upload again,
upload
*just* the Publisher webfiles, *not* the whole 'HOA Website Files'
folder.
The index.htm file and index_files folder should be uploaded to the
same
directory and at the same level as the '_db_backups', 'aspnet_client'
and
the 'stats' folders.
I think you may have been making another mistake with Publisher 2003.
After
you opened your Publisher file and were ready to publish your web
files,
you
said that you did a ""Save a web page". If you do this Publisher 2003
creates what is called 'unfiltered' or 'rich' files, that are bloated

on your computer. This will produce filtered files in both Pub 2003
and
2007. Then using FileZilla upload the index.htm file and the
index_files
folder to your FTP site: ftp.lan-hoa.com and you should be good to go.
Post back if you continue to have problems.

Many thanks, David, but I am NOT the only one who tells you that,
after
reading the many, many replies to posts at this Publisher site.
I think webhost refers to GoDaddy.com.
Q1. What I am confused about is what process creates a folder on
the C
Drive stem/trunk called, "ftp.lan-hoa.com"? When I deleted the
index_files
and the index.htm files from this location, my website went down.
It
must
be
created after the upload of the two files/folders to my webhost or
this
folder is created by Publisher?
FYI. When I "Save a a web page" when finished with my changes to
the
.pub
file, the wizard asks me where I want to place the "index_files,"
and
the
"index.htm" and I place it into a folder called "HOA Website Files".
Somewhere along the line, I thought another step was required,
between
placing lndex_files and the index.htm in the C drive folder (HOA
Website
Files), and uploading them to my webhost (GoDaddy.com), using
FileZilla?
Q2. I have another folder on my C drive stem called
www.lcn-hoa.com,
which
may be the folder created by Publisher, or maybe I created it and
don't
remember doing it?? This is where I drag "index_files and
index.htm"
from
the folder I created called, HOA Website Files, into
www.lcn-hoa.com,
and
then I right click the open space on the right side of the C drive
stem
(shows the files inside of any folder you click), so I can select
refresh,
making the NEW index_files and the index.htm overwrite the older two
files.
When I open FileZilla, I find the folder on my C drive stem
"www.lcn-hoa.com" and drag these two files (index_files, and
index.htm)
to
the right side that loads them to my website.
