I used Normal, just now, (not anon) when uploading with Filezilla.
I was able to upload both index_files & index.htm that way. But I'm still
seeing index_files in the addres.

It appears that the index_files folder needs cleaning out. There are a lot

The index.htm file is the home page and the first page of a Publisher web
publication. The index_files folder contains the other .htm files...the
other pages of a site and all the supporting graphics, and no it is not
supposed to be browsable. That is what is so weird about being able to
access her index_files folder. You should get a 403 error.

My guess was based on her saying that she had used 'anonymous' and from
what I remember, you never choose that option with ftp uploading.

But this was the least of her problems. When I downloaded her file and
tested it both locally and after uploading the html files it to a test
site, the links did point to my C drive. Somehow her navigation system was
corrupted. I just haven't figured out how, nor how to easily fix it. I
ended up rebuilding the pub file instead.

Anyway, let's see if making the change in the setting from anonymous to
normal fixes it. If not we can look elsewhere.

It could be a permissions issue but I may have been
wrong...IF...Publisher's index page is supposed to be in index_files
folder then that folder should be browsable. IF NOT then the index_files
folder should NOT be browsable.

In addition...if the main index page is SUPPOSED to be in the
index_folder it is not and may be why the links to the images are
incorrect...because ALL the images are in the index_folder.

Dunno if I'm making any sense any more :-)

FTP anon or pw should not make any difference regarding index_files
folder permissions I don't think.

I am not sure I understand your question? There is no change in where
you upload the index.htm file or the index_files folder...they both go
in the root directory. My point is that it was in the process of
uploading that she set the index_files folder such that you could see
the contents. I could be wrong...wouldn't be the first time, but I THINK
that it is a "permissions" issue, and can be solved by changing the
setting in FileZilla as I indicated.

Public download sites on the Internet use anonymous FTP. If you don't
want people to have access to the index_files folder, then you don't use
anonymous FTP.... I think <g>.

Yikes.

WHERE should Publisher's web main index page reside when published to
the web?

You might want to change the login method in FileZilla to Normal from
Anonymous. I think that will keep people from being able to see the
contents of your index_files folder.

Thank you,
I'll wait to see if David can find anything. I can't find anything
that
tells how to "de-browser" my index_files folder.

Wait for DavidF to reply. I don't use Publisher for websites that
often so
I'm not sure why it's placing your image files in the wrong folder.

I downloaded your actual site and it works fine locally, it's just a
matter
of why when you publish or save maybe that they are being misplaced
or
creating incorrect links.

BTW...a viewer should not be able to browse you index_files folder,
it
should be changed to non-browsable OR you should put a dummy
index.htm page
in that folder

I posted a link to Yousendit.com. I'd hate to have to go into the
code
every
time I make changes to my web site, which is often. Let's see if
looking
at
my .pub file helps. Otherwise, I know where to access the code in
my file
manager, but am not sure how to fix it. Thanks.

ALL your images are actually there in the index_files folder
(which for
some
reason is browsable and should not be) but anyway they are there
you just
have to fix the links on the pages.

I am also having a problem with pictures not showing up on
my web
site:
www.blissdesigns.net.
I've been reading posts & googling for over a week, trying
to figure
this
out.

One thing that seems different for me is the Publish to the
Web
window
that
opens under File. There is no "Save In". It does open
folders -
but
"My
Network Places" isn't an option anywhere. I have tried
saving it in
many
locations - currently on my Desktop. The only options that
I have
are
File
Name - and it has index, so I've left it at that. The next
is Save
as
type
: with Web Page, Filtered as the only option.
When I it Save, the files do show up on my desktop.

I've then been using FileZilla to transfer the files to my
web
server.
They
show up there, but all aimed at my C drive.
I also can use "upload" from my File Manager at Surf Speedy,
my
server.

Using Publisher 2007, Vista, IE7. I've had a web page for
years,
using
Surf
Speedy Site Builder. But just bought a new computer and
Publisher
was
installed on it. It was so easy & fun to build a
newer/better web
site,
just having problems getting it up. The site looks perfect
when I
Preview
it, and when I click on index on my desktop. The site opens
in IE,
with
this
location:
C:\Users\Anne\Desktop\index.htm
I did use Design Checker.
Can you help me, please?
