You should also make them the dimensions you want to use, and then optimize
them, then use in your design.

The COMPRESS didn't seem to help. I will download
http://www.irfanview.com/
and give it a try. Thanks so much!

Try compressing the images using publisher
In publisher go to help and type in COMPRESS
Instructions there may help you out
Let us know it that helps If that does not help it load faster there
are
other methods such as what you suggested shrinking images. I use
http://www.irfanview.com/
Another free program
AND Yes each time you update the site you MUST reload the site using FTP
You will be a PRO in no time :)

Spike! Check out www.glasshappyonline.com!!!! I uploaded the files
within
"index.files" not the folder the first time. All of the files within
"index.files" were not in a folder, which they needed to be. Got It!
When
I
make corrections, which I see that I need to do. Do I follow this same
process each time? If so, I guess the new files would replace the old
files
on the server? The pictures are loading slowly. Is that because the
original
pictures are 1224x1776? If so, should I reduce the size before I put
them
on
my website? You are awesome! Debi

You up loaded the "index_files"
Did you also upload or create the folder "index_files" on the server?
In order for the site to work you must have all those files in that
folder.
Did you upload the "index.htm" file in the root directory? This is
your
home page that you see when you open the site.
Hang in there Debi, we will get it working for you.

Spike
Thank you for your patience with me and your help. Once I
understand
the
process I will be fine. I thought I could upload the files from
Publisher
2007. Now I understand why they were not. I downloaded Filezilla
and
filled
out host, username and password. Then info was filled automatically
into
the
"Filename" box on the right. I went to the" local site" box and
selected
where I saved the index. files. I double clicked on "index.files"
and
it
opened all of the files into the "Filename" box. I selected all of
the
files
in the "Filename" box, then selected "upload". It was uploading the
files. I
went to my website and there is a 403 Forbidden error. I have left
the
site
as is so that you could see the error. I went to the GoDaddy
Hosting
to
see
if all of those files had uploaded into File Manager and they have.
Do
I
need to do something on the GoDaddy?

Do not select Tools map a drive at this point

You should have the index.htm files and a sub folder "index_files"
containing the supporting pages and files. This is the default for
2007.
The next step is to FTP those files to the godaddy server
I looked at http://glasshappyonline.com/
Is this the site that you are working on? I also see that it was
not
created using publisher.
If you are not familiar with FTP, Godaddy recommends using
FileZilla
for
transferring files form your computer to the web site. This is a
free
program and is available at
http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client

I want to use Publisher 2007 since I upgraded from Publisher 2000.
OS is XP
Brower: Explorer
URL: Do you mean ftp://glasshappyonline.com
Hosting: godaddy
I don't know what you mean by tried to publish to the web
designating a
folder on your hard drive for the htm files? Can you explain so
that
I
can
try this?
I appreciate your response.

I am a bit confused with your statement
"when I use Publisher 2000 I can publish to the ftp,....."
Are you still using Publisher 2000, or are you using a newer
version?
What OS are you using?
What Brower are you using?
What is your URL?
Who is hosting the web space?
Have you tried to publish to the web designating a folder on
your
hard
drive
for the htm files?
If so does the site look OK when you open it from there?
If it looks OK there have you tried to FTP those files it to
your
server?

I have followed the directions from the website to publish to
my
website.
I
have opened file then Clicked Publish to web, then went to
tools
and
clicked
on Map Network Drive. I selected numerous drives, but I
cannot
select
"Finish". I can only select cancel.. What do I need to do? I
have
also
done
the following. Selected File, Publish to Website, save, then
a
window
comes
up "Publishing to HTML" but this doen't publish to my ftp. I
have
also
done
this File, publish to website, save in, selected
ftp://ftp......,
FTP
logon
box comes up and I put in my password, OK, ftp://ftp.... is in
Save
In,
save,
box comes up saying Publishing HTML files, another box comes
up
saying
Saving. Nothing happens so I cancel. Box comes up saying:
Publisher
couldn't
save the file to the web. Check URL or Network connection and
try
again.
I
am so frustrated because when I use Publisher 2000 I can
publish
to
the
ftp,
but the images are blurry and disfigured. Any help would be
greatly
appreciated as I have spent hours creating my sight and trying
to
Publish
it.
Thanks!
