David, I used to be a business professor at a University in the Seattle area,
and I am a pretty good judge of people, and from the brief conversations and
the help you have given me, I sense a person of sound character, with a heart
capable and willing to help others--a much sought after quality.

I will be helping a friend cater a wedding for 800 people at some camp in
Opelousas, LA (like Camp David--ha-ha), and when I return, I will look
forward to coming back to improve my website for our home owner's association.

Where do you call home? Who knows, we may meet someday??

It is written for Pub 2007, but if you are using IE7 instead of IE6, then
the directions for using Vista also would apply to Pub 2003. FTP and HTTP
uploading has changed with the introduction of IE7 and Vista.

The directions for uploading have become a bit muddy, but this is the best
MSFT has to offer. That is part of the reason I suggest using a third party
ftp client if you aren't using a Publisher built form in the site.

creating a folder on my hard drive will help.

A friend was here several nights ago, and I think he was doing this
somehow,
because the index_files kept changing, and then we did a drag and drop to
his
FS FTP client and up they went to the website.

I am just rusty using FTP Client software, and for that matter, Publisher.

I am leaving Monday for New Orleans, but when I get back on April 10th, I
will try some of your ideas, and will reread the Publisher site for
directions as to how to publish to my computer.

saved the changes to the .pub file.

I had planned to drag and drop the updated index_files folder into the

side of the FTP client, along with the index.htm, but if they don't
update
when I save the Publisher .pub file, then I am perplexed.

Any advice?

might be able to just lengthen the text box to compensate, or you may
need
to change the formatting. You might also try using Shift + Enter at
the
end
of each numbered item instead of Enter. This can sometimes help the
spacing
in a bulleted list. Go to View > Special Characters to see the
difference
in
the hard return.

And all this is a long winded way of saying that absolutely you need
to
use
web preview. That will tell you what the page is going to look like
when
you
do publish it. Then you can move things around, lengthen text boxes
etc
before you publish.

I think you just install the Client version of Filezilla...don't worry
about
the other stuff. Publisher uploading was not that bad before MSFT
changed
IE
and Vista. You can no longer FTP through IE as of IE7, and HTTP
uploading
is
also totally different. Unless you are using a form, then using a
third
party ftp client is going to be easier and faster.

If you have Dreamweaver, that is by far a better program for web
building,
but as you suggest, if you have a simple static site, Publisher is
fine.

As per FireFox...download and install a copy to test your site. It is
a
small download, and chances are you may end up liking it better than
IE.

bad software, but because I can't forget my old, and outdated

Using the Publisher process to upload the index.ftm and index_files
leaves
a
lot to be desired. I know that once I get the correct copy of
FileZilla,

begin to use it, I will be less frustrated with this small, and
static
website. Only two pages will ever change.
