Re: How to link a pdf document to a webpage for down load ?

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Had same problem last week with a pdf type file and I thought the only
solution was to hyperlink to the site i.e.
www.mysite.com/folder/filename.pdf which to me seems to be the long way
around. I tried before to just link to the file i.e. /folder/filename.pdf
but I could not get it to work. So I think you are saying you were
successful without the www type link??

From my experience what you say about file extensions is NOT true.
All mine that work have the extension included in the hyperlink and I
cannot see how it could be true because the extension is an integral part
of any file name.
What would happen if you had 2 files in the one directory with the same
name but different extensions?

I just tried without the extension and if there is only one file with the
name then it will be opened but if there are 2 with same name and
different extensions then only one of them will be accesable because the
browser will decide which one of the two gets precedence.

So even though it may have worked for you it is bad practice and certainly
was not related to you finding your file.

it worked !

1) I simplified the file names

2) I learned that I must NOT put in the file extension (ie .pdf or .doc)
into the hyperlink.

Thanks so much for all your help Don, Mike and John it is much
appreciated.

I have been fighting with it for a week now.

BUT

Success is mine now, due to your words of wisdom.
