Re: spam posts

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Same here - and some topics, altho properly posted are ignored. either I have no knowledge on the subject or I just don't care. And then again there are some posts that are asking the samed darned question that is asked dowzens of times each day. If a person can't even make an attempt to help themselves, why do I want to waste time that could be used helping someone who has tried researching a problem before posting? I do the same thing at work. I'll help the guys do something, I'll teach them how to do it. But don't hand me the file and tell me to do this for you because you don't want to learn how to do it yourself.

Actually, it doesn't cost me any time at all. I read the messages I want, skip the spam and mark all messages as read. Not exactly rocket science, but it works for me.

YMMV,

so you welcome spam then? Interesting... I find it a huge waste of time.

The point is this group is open to any one who wants to post anything. If you cannot tell a spam message from a legit question or reply, then you need to spend more time reading NGs.

And while it may be true that almost every forum is a discussion group, not every discussion group is a forum.

I'm accessing it through Microsoft office online. The definition of forum is a discussion board on the Internet. It meets that definition. I'm thinking maybe you've not been part of a forum based on your response. When someone posts a topic and you don't have a response that actually contributes, you can pass it by; you don't have to post for the sake of posting. Who cares how we access it, the point is the spam is annoying and abusive.

This really isn't forum, although you may be seeing it as such. Most of us are accessing these newgroups (Usenet; nntp) through newsreaders like Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Agent and a bunch of others...we don't see forum like junk, although sometimes we'll see a spam post or two which usually get removed.
