Scottie,
I'm somewhat suprised by your post. I take it you must feel that your hopes of becoming the next Bill Gates are being dashed by facts. In our e-mail conversations, you never got defensive, now you are.
Two people who know - David and Rob, have added their opinions, as have I. Yet we are pessimistic, we have a 'can't do' attitude, we will always be limited in life.
Hey Kimosabe, good luck. I hope you succeed and own a chain of islands in the warm Pacific Ocean or Caribbean Sea. I was, and I think Rob and David were, just trying to point out reality for you. You have it in your mind that you can literally change water into gold and anyone who disagrees with you is a naysayer.
Another serious question: These dozen people "who are prepared
to pay me $100 per listing to create these websites," have they written you a check yet? Have you secured a web host and domain name for each client? At a dozen Realtors with multiple listings and $100 per listing (let's say an average Realtor has 10 listings at a time), that's what, $12,000 in the bank, right? And this is after only two days. After your big meeting on Friday, you should have another two dozen, maybe four dozen Realtors signed up. I must admit, I was skeptical of someone making $50,000 a week selling templates, but you have the "can do" attitude that most of us lack.
All we have is real-world experience.
However, I do appreciate your keeping us clued in. I figure, since I know how to do sites with a program that takes less time and updates quicker, plus have some connections (actually, quite a few of them - a nephew, a couple of former Frat brothers, and a few people I have met in other NGS and forums) I can do a whole site, with up to a dozen listings, for just $300. I figure 300 is cheaper than 1200 any day of the week.
Thanks for letting us know about the plan. Rob and David - I claim Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. You guys can split up the other 49 states. What do you say - we buy Bali, a couple of jets and have a big party in a year? Get a few bands to perform, invite the heads of the world and in between selling web sites, we sip a few cold drinks and enjoy some food.
Ah... the pleasures of dreaming!!!!!!!!!

I really don't have time to respond to any of your other BS... but suffice it to say, you have a can't do it attitude, and that will always be your limitation in life.
As for David and Rob... if you have anything of value to add that you think I would find beneficial to at least hit the ground running, I would welcome your comments. I understand the Pub is only a short term solution... but I at least want to get some momentum, and start knocking these things out. I already have over a dozen Realtors, with multiple listings, who are prepared to pay me $100 per listing to create these websites. It's not just a website... it is a way for them to differentiate themselves in what many consumers view as a commodity business. In the short term, I would like a streamlined solution which would take someone no more than 10 to 20 minutes to edit. Long term, I would like to work with someone that could take this concept to the next level with a Flash website. If no one has anything constructive to add, then I will check back with you in about 30 days, after I publish website 100. Think I'm full of BS Mike? Watch and learn.

Scottie,
Sorry, I have to agree with much of what Mike said, and with Rob, that Publisher is not the program for this project. You are just reinventing the wheel. There are many service providers that simply scrape the pictures and text from your MLS automatically and produce similar products, but not with Publisher. Here is another example:

Can you compete with them?
Honestly, I think you would be better off to use this marketing method for your own listings to have an edge over other agents during your listing presentation.

I plan to offer a service where I will create hundreds of simple websites...
all from a single template. This might be a 3 to 5 page website at the most.
Each website would have unique data which would appear on multiple pages.
For example... let's just say that at the top of each page, I have a text box
which says "Bob's Web Page". What I would like to do is go to the text box
on page 1, and change "Bob's Web Page" to "Sally's Web Page", and it would
automatically update all the other pages. Similarly, I might have a photo
which would appear on page 1, and also on page 2 and page 5. It would be
great if I could change the photo once, and it would update all locations.
Currently, I am having to go to each page and edit each text box one at a
time... also go to each picture box, and swap the photos one at a time. I
hope this makes sense? I am relatively computer literate, and a quick
study... but totally new to web page design, and have found Publisher pretty
easy to use.
