Thanks Mike,
You are correct about the non-websafe fonts... I noticed this issue a couple
of days ago. The website looks great at my office, but when I pulled it up
at home, some of the fonts had been substituted, and some text did not
display correctly. I noticed an option to embed fonts, and was not sure if
that would fix this problem. I am guessing it does not apply to this issue.
I suppose if I really wanted to keep certain stylish fonts, I could create
those sections in Photoshop and include them as a jpeg. On that subject...
I'm not sure where you are coming from about the logo and contact info all
being one image file. My contact info is curently in a text box... and when
I pull up the live website, I can copy and paste it just fine. Are you
suggesting another solution? Back to the original thread. If I only had to
change the address at the top, you would be correct, it would only take a few
seconds, and no big deal. But as I have it currently, I have my name,
address, fax number, phone number, and email address at the bottom of each
page. If I have to change that ten times a day, for ten different
Realtors... every single day, then it is not an efficient solution, and it
multiplies the chance for error (typos). I would actually like to have that
info on every page, kind of like I have it right now... but unless there is a
good solution to make the edits... I might just limit that information to one
page. I guess I will look for some previous discussion on the Master Page
issues. I was starting to make some progress with it... but it sounds like
there are reasons to avoid that solution. By the way... if any website
proficient designers/programmers have any interest in some freelance work to
get this off the ground, feel free to contact me. (Perhaps that is a subject
better suited to a different forum?)

Scottie,

I will say one thing - you have great dreams. Good luck in your
endeavors! There's some things you have not thought out, though.

David is the expert on how Pub behaves; he has solved a lot of problems
by urging posters to not use Master Pages. In your case, it would not
work exactly as you wish, as the place where it fits on a page
(vis-a-vis the top of the page)is not the same. But let me re-iterate,
you are talking about a couple of seconds per page. Make a copy of your
text frame, remove the present one on Page 2 and paste your copy there.
Ditto for Page 3.

You may want to look at a different program to do what you want.

A couple of problems with your site: the entire bottom part - the logo,
text and picture are all one image. If someone wanted to copy your
e-mail address or other part of the text and paste it in a different
file - say a possible contact list, they cannot. Also, you've used a
couple of fonts that are not web safe - Monotype Corsiva and Copperplate
Gothic Bold & Light. Wingdings also in questionable. Web safe fonts are
those that are going to be on almost everyone's computer. If a viewer
doesn't have the font you have used (and it is displayed as text), then
a different font will be substituted. This can really mess up how a site
looks.

Thanks Mike... but I was just trying to utilize the Master Page
functionalilty in Pub when you responded... and I have yet to get it to work
(but just began). Maybe it would be useful if I provided an example of one
of my intial web pages, see: http://www.250ValleyRun.com . I am a Realtor,
and already have other Realtors asking me to do this for them. I would like
to start a business producing these websites for other Realtors... and in the
big picture, I can envision creating thousands of websites per year. I will
pay someone else to edit the templates, and load the photos... but I want to
make it as simple as possible... which takes me back to my intial thread.
How can I change the address "250 Valley Run Place" on page 1, and have it
automatically update pages 2 and 3. Will I be able to do this with the
Master Page function? THanks in advance!

Scottie,

This is where a Master Page (or multiple Master Pages) really come in
handy. Unfortunately, Pub doesn't seem to like them.

The good news is that it will only take a moment or two to make the
changes. Unless you are going to pay people to let you design their
site, you won't have to worry about the extra seconds you will spend.
The reality is that anyone who wants a boilerplate web site can do it
themselves with software they have, inexpensive software they can buy or
free software they can download, not to mention most web hosts offer
some kind of basic templates customers can use.

Anyone considering paying to have a professional design will not be
satisfied with a generic, "insert your name and picture here" approach.

I plan to offer a service where I will create hundreds of simple websites...
all from a single template. This might be a 3 to 5 page website at the most.
Each website would have unique data which would appear on multiple pages.
For example... let's just say that at the top of each page, I have a text box
which says "Bob's Web Page". What I would like to do is go to the text box
on page 1, and change "Bob's Web Page" to "Sally's Web Page", and it would
automatically update all the other pages. Similarly, I might have a photo
which would appear on page 1, and also on page 2 and page 5. It would be
great if I could change the photo once, and it would update all locations.
Currently, I am having to go to each page and edit each text box one at a
time... also go to each picture box, and swap the photos one at a time. I
hope this makes sense? I am relatively computer literate, and a quick
study... but totally new to web page design, and have found Publisher pretty
easy to use.
