Re: Insert JAlbum

brelade,

If I can jump in here... Here is a pretty good article to read about cross
browser compatibility:
http://msmvps.com/blogs/dbartosik/articles/80825.aspx
In general, there are things you can do with a Publisher print document,
that won't convert to HTML that will view correctly in IE. There are things
you can do in a Publisher web document that work fine in IE, but not FF.
Publisher writes different code for non IE browsers. Everything is a trade
off, but if you want to maximize browser compatibility, you test in both IE
and FF and perhaps other browsers, and if a particular technique or design
element doesn't work, then try a different design or technique. This is part
of web design.

In my opinion you need to focus on not only why your menu drop down displays
behind other design elements when viewed with FF, but also, and perhaps more
importantly, why it does not position itself correctly in either IE or FF.
The main menu overlaps text and other elements in both IE and FF when I view
your pages.

I took a peek at your code, and was overwhelmed by the sheer quantity, so I
wasn't able to tell why your menu does what it does. To trouble shoot it, I
would first ask, how did you insert the code for the menu? I assume that you
used the insert html code fragment feature. Did you overlap the fragment box
with other design elements? Did you make the box as big or slightly bigger
than the menu? Are you perhaps using a master page?

Rob indicated that the menu incorporated code that resulted in absolute
placement on your pages. Have you gone back to read the directions
associated with the use of this particular menu, to see if you can change
that? In my JavaScript menu, it displays where I put the code fragment box.
If you put your fragment box at another place on the page, does it display
there, or at the place it displays now? If it displays the same place
regardless of where you put the code fragment box, then you need to change
the code. Go back and read the directions, and at the same time look for
directions about coding the drop down menus to always display on top of any
other design elements. If it displays where you moved the box, then that
would tell me that the code itself doesn't specify where the menu will
display. Then you need to study how you have your page laid out. Perhaps
start out with a simpler page with just your banner elements, and snug up
the code fragment box to the bottom of the banner elements and test? Perhaps
move the content that is currently being overlapped down the page? Rebuild a
page one element at a time until you find the design element or technique
that is throwing things off, and then try something else until it works.

And if none of this helps, then go find a different code for your menu. I
tried a variety of different menus before I found one that would work for
me, and there certainly is a lot of free code available.

Mike.
Point taken,I will look in to my page set up, but that is why i asked the
question above, do people view what i am seeing on my computer, the reason
i
ask is, i have designed the site on a laptop with a 15" monitor, when i
view
it, it fits the screen, i dont have horizontal scroll bars.
One problem i can't get round is, when i view with firefox my drop down
menu's dissapear behind my header, & dont line up on the page, also some
of
my boarders move, it's like even thing has drop lower, if i move my drop
down
menu or boarders to fit firefox, it messes up IE, question, do i have to
take
the happy medium and go with IE, as most of my visitors are using IE.
Any advice on how to suit both browsers would be gratefully recieved.
Cheers

brelade,

When I view your pages (after a Ctrl/F5 to force a reload), your menu
views fine in SeaMonkey (a version of Firefox, Mozilla). But you have
designed it at 1024 pix, meaning it will have horizontal scroll bars
when viewing at 800 x 600. A recent poll (conducted by scantips.com)
asked about the resolution visitors were using. Less than 30 percent
were still at 800 x 600 but keep in mind - scantips is a site for people
who use their computer more for work. The little old ladies and those
who don't view the web as more than a pastime are less likely to have
larger monitors.

When you view the page are you viewing it with a minimised page, as i
would
agree, the menu is out of place, but when maximised it lines up, this
may
sound a stupid question, but what i view on my comuter, is that what
everyone
else will view.

Ref the code, when i insert the code on the page, the menu dissappears
completely, i think this part is beyond me.
When viewed with firefox, my home page displays 1/2 the menu, but the
remainder of pages, the menu dissapears behind top title header, i
would like
it be be able to be view with both browsers, all pages with firefox
have
messed up drop down menu
