Hi David

It's me again and I've still got problems. I have upgraded my package with
1&1 and they have given me a new web space address, so, all I have to do
is
publish my web site to that and change the direction of my domain name and
I'm done. Easy? No....

I have saved my web site to HTML but when I publish it to the wizard it
asks
me where I want to publish the files and says I can select a service
provider. In the box for service providers it has already put MSN Groups,
which I don't want, but it won't let me delete or change this. If I ignore
it
and just click on next, a box appears asking me where I want the files
stored
and says 'I can store them in MSN or My Web Documents or any other group I
create'. Again it has already put in 'Create a new MSN Group to share your
files' but will not let me delete or change it. So, what will happen if I
ignore this MSN thing and just continue?

I have just found another grey hair...and I'm too young to go grey so
please
help!!

That's good news. But you don't need to reverse the process...just create
a
shortcut for FireFox as I indicated.

Its unfortunate, but my brain usually works better early than late. Web
building can be fun...and test the brain.

Hi David

I've got IE back. From the start buton I went into 'Set programme
access
and defaults' and the box 'Add or remove programmes' came up. I clicked
on
custom and there was IE and Firefox with the option to change the
default...so I did and it worked. Phew!! All back to normal now but
Firefox
is still there if I want to use it, I just reverse the process.

I understand what you are saying about my photos but once 1&1 are
hosting
my website I don't suppose it will be an issue.

Thanks once again, you certainly inspire me to use my brain over this
computer, (but I couldn't do it at 4.28a.m!!)

Maureen,

Whoops. It sounds like you chose FireFox as your default browser when
you
installed it. You needed to watch the options as you installed it. I
am
not
sure of how you change it now. Perhaps right click the IE icon,
properties,
and under the Programs tab, click Reset Web Settings, and/or the box
beside
"Internet Explorer should check to see whether...". Then try the icon
again.
If that doesn't work, then perhaps delete the icon, and using Windows
Explorer browse to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe and
right
click that file, drag to the desktop, and choose Create Shortcut. Set
the
properties. For a Firefox shortcut, C:\Program Files\Mozilla
Firefox\firefox.exe , right click and drag to desktop, create short
cut.

Then if none of that works, I guess I would try removing FireFox
through
add
and remove, check the shortcut for IE again, and if it works, then
reinstall
FireFox and this time make sure it doesn't install as the default
browser.

You gotta be careful when you install programs. I always use Custom
install
if I have the choice so I can look at all the options before
installing.
And, I always manually set a system restore point before installing,
just
in
case.

As per the pictures...you remember me talking about how Publisher
produces
"smarter" code for IE, and "dumber" code for other browsers? Well it
also
produces different graphics for different browsers, and in your case,
the
images are not that great in FireFox. Just one of the limitations of
using
Publisher for building a website, that you will have to live with
unless
you
import your images instead of embedding them...but that is another
issue,
for another time.

Hi David

Just to let you know that I downloaded Firefox. It takes a little
time
to
sort out where things are in a different layout, but I'm sure I will
get
used
to it. The only thing is I appear to have lost IE. When I click on
the
IE
icon on my desktop it goes to Firefox. Is that something I did when
I
downloaded, I would quite like to have both browsers if I can so any
ideas
how I can restore IE?

The good thing about Firefox, of course, is that my web site works
fine
in
my domain name, Yipeee! The photographs are very fuzzy but is that
because
I
uploaded the web site in IE? If I'm handing it all over to 1&1 it's
not
a
problem and hopefully it will all be sorted by the end of the week.

Be in touch again when it's all done.

Just to let you know that I have just copied and pasted the article
from
David Bartosik's web site and it has worked perfectly, it's now
saved
in
a
Word Document.
Thanks again.

Maureen,

Please post the URL of your website.

Happy to help, but I don't know about the "know what I am talking
about",
and the website material I reference is not mine, it is David
Bartosik's,
the resident MVP who DOES know what he is talking about ;-) Most
of
what I
do know about this subject, I learned from him, reading this
newsgroup,
and
a lot of trial and terror.

You should be able to print David's material, but I guess you
could
also
copy and paste it into a Word document...or WordPad or
notepad...,
and
print
from there if you are having problems. Or perhaps try selecting
the
text you
want to print and choose print selection...

Hi David
Thanks again for your help, I have been trying to get this
website
up
and
running for weeks. My old one was in Publisher 97 and was a
real
struggle...
and I was on dial-up. So I decided to update my version of
Publisher
and
go
Broadband thinking all would be easy. After weeks of talking to
people,
reading books and the 'net, you have no idea how good it is to
talk
deal
with
someone who know what they're talking about and is prepared to
help.

Anyway, I thought it might be a good idea to try publishing my
website
again
and I've had a look at your website and found the details very
interesting. I
would like to try publishing my website using your FTP
instructions
but
find
it quite alot to remember. I tried printing it but it wouldn't
do
it,
have
you a printable version I can try?

It sounds like you forgot to upload all the HTML files. When
you
Publish
to
the Web, unless
you changed the default, you produce a index.htm file (your
home
page)
and a
index_files folder which contains your other pages and images.
If
that
isn't
the problem review the articles above and then post the URL.

I have recently designed and published a web site in
Publisher
2003
following
the ftp location and it has published successfully to my web
space
URL
address. But when I access the site using my domain name I
find
it
has
only
published the details of the Home page and the other pages
are
blank.
My
domain name host says it's not a problem with their site and
my
ISP say
it's
