Re: Website too large

Meg,

Some questions:

You are mixing up the terminology which makes it hard to help you. When you
say your "webpage" is 38.1 MB, what do you mean? Are you talking about your
Publisher file, or one page, or the total of your HTML files? Specifically:

1. How big is your Publisher file?

2. How big is the HTML folder if you publish to your hard drive, and did you
delete all the files within that folder before you republished your site,
after optimizing your images?

3. How big is the index.htm file within the HTML folder?

4. Did you go to Tools > Options > Web tab and untick Rely on VML...and
untick Allow PNG...?

5. Did you use the compress "all" images function as a final step before
producing your HTML files?

If you didn't do 4 and 5, then do that, save your file, and then republish
your HTML files to your hard drive and answer questions 1 - 3 again.

And now to trouble shoot one page at a time, open your Publisher file. Go to
Tools > Graphic Manager. Click on each embedded image on your home page,
click the drop down chevron, and click details. Note both the file size and
the effective resolution. Do this for each picture on your home page...are
any of them larger than 100 kb or at a resolution of higher than 96 dpi?

Answer these specific questions, and we will go from there.

Ok - I have posted here three times now and I seem to run into consistant
errors. This one tops the cake!
My last issue was the size of the picutres on my website. Well I decreased
each and every on of them - big time! So now that I decreased everything
and
changed all the pictures I saved the file and went to the properties and
checked the overall size of the webpage -- 38.1 MB!!! I KNOW my pictures
are
not that big.
Just to prove my point I added up the size of each of the pictures that I
used and the total size of all the pictures on that web is 2,590.8 KB
(added
all together).
Everything else on my website is text and I am totally confused why I have
such a huuggee website when it's not my pictures are taking that up.
Another thing I did was ran the design checker - everything perfect there.
I am totally confused and I think everyone of my problems is just stemming
down to this is a program problem and not the operator. I tell you - after
all this work I'm this (--) close to purchasing FrontPage.
