You're welcome to my response, sujatha :-)  Project uses your PC set up with
the printer you're using, and thus, printing problems are generally not the
fault of Project.  Are you using Windows XP or Vista to the latest update?

Hi sujatha,

Sorry, I misunderstood your query as being able to send the documents
directly to the printer. I have checked both 2003 and 2007 versions
of Project and both print as you say via loading Project first,
printing and then closing Project - which is what you hoped for.

Make sure you have SP1 applied to Project 2007. You must also check
you have the latest printer driver available - see FAQ Item: 44.

Hi sujatha,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Project does not have this facility as, unlike a word document, the
mpp file needs to load Project first in which it can open. You then
have to select the view or report you want to print. If you have
already created a view you want to print and then save it as a pdf
file (this requires the purchase of software like Adobe) then you
can print the pdf file as you would expect.

Hello,

When you right click on Project 2007 .mpp file in Windows explorer
and select print, it does not print the file.
If you look at other office file formats, right click on a file
and choose print, prints the document to the default printer.
In project 2007, using command line I can open a file, but I can
not print.
In our application, we use print/printto verb to print document
using DDE command.
Pls. let me know if I am missing something here? or Is this a bug
in Project 2007?

Thankyou.- Hide quoted text -

Mike,

Thankyou for the response.

I know that Microsoft Project 2003 has the option, where if I have
already created project file in Project 2003, I can right-click .mpp
file in Windows explorer and select print. It loads the .mpp file in
Project application and prints the file to the default printer.
I am not able to do the same operation with .mpp file created in
Project 2007. When I right-click and select Print, it opens the file
in Project and does nothing.
Is it something that could be supported in future with service pack
release?

Are you referring to Adobe writer to be able to save project file as
pdf and then print the pdf file?

I have written macro in Word that sets default printer and prints
the current document.
Can I do something similar in Project 2007, may be write add-in /
macro that can print when file is loaded in the application?
Any pointers are appreciated.

Thanks Mike for your response.

I installed SP1 for Project 2007, re-started my machine, I have the
latest printer drivers, but I still can not print Project 2007 file
from Windows explorer.
It works fine with Project 2003.
Not sure what I am missing here.

well, I am going to try to write an add-in.
Pls. let me know if you can think of any other options.

I am using Win XP Prof. Not sure what I am doing wrong.
Like I mentioned I will try add-in.
Thanks for your help.
