Hello shortnsweet1970,
I believe the reason why Mike directed you to the Project Server
newsgroup is because, as I understand your question, you want to remove
tasks from user's timesheets. The timesheet is part of Project Web
Access which is the web component working with Project Server.
If you wish to remove a resource from a task in Project Professional,
you certainly can. Open the project file in Project Professional, click
on the task and the Gantt chart view, click the Assign resources button
on the Standard toolbar, select the name of the resource you wish to
remove, and click the "remove" button.
However, to get that assignment removed from the time*** you need to
make changes to the information stored in Project Server and visible to
your users in Project Web Access. Sorry, that detail I don't know and I
would suggest posting to the server newsgroup as well.
While many of the responders who work with server also read and respond
in this newsgroup, their "first stop" is usually the server newsgroup.
The separation (what is the desktop Project process, what is a server
process, and what is a PWA process) is fuzzy at times -- even to us.
No inconvenience on our part -- Mike was just trying to find you a
quicker answer by directing you to a newsgroup where the "server gurus"
are focused.
I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I'm sorry. I don't really understand FAQ item 24. My company uses a
server,
but I considered this a "general question". I didn't think it had
anything in
particular to do with a server, but I guess I'll copy my post and put
it
there. Like I said, I'm really a beginner with MS Project and
basically only
know how to turn it on and do what I've been taught to do (which is
making a
project from a company template, adding tasks and resources, and
that's about
it).
Anyway, sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi, I'm fairly (really) new to MS Project, and am using the "by
guess and
by
gosh" method of figuring things out when colleagues can't seem to
help.
I've
run into a problem/question that my colleagues don't seem to think
is
fixable, so I wanted to post it here.
First a short overview of what I do with MS Project - I use MS
Project as
a
glorified time *** at the moment. We have line projects with
tasks that
last all year, have no time limit, etc. Everyone is just thrown
under all
the
tasks they do, so they can fill in how much time they spend on each
task.
My problem is, some colleagues are complaining that their task
*** (in
EPM
for a web environment) is too full, with old or incorrect projects
and
tasks
still visible. These are often old projects that can be closed, but
occasionally there are tasks from current projects that the project
manager
thought these colleagues might do. It turns out that they don't, so
they
don't want to see them anymore.
I know they can do "hide", but I was trying to come up with a way
to clean
it up and have them removed from the task altogether. It doesn't
seem
possible. Everywhere I look, I see ways to add people, but no way
to say,
"oops, that was a mistake, I need to remove them". Does anyone have
a
suggestion?
Thank you in advance.
