Re: "Error 1303" when trying to upgrade to 2007

Well, this time I closed all Explorer windows when I got to the "upgrad" point.

I still received the error (Error 1303. Setup cannot access the folder
c:\config.msi). It popped up about 5 times during the course of the install,
and each time I clicked on "retry". It appears to have installed
successfully, and once complete I was able to go to the updates page, install
the 1 avail. update and launch the program w/out issue.

Not sure if our .exe is corrupt, or we need to run the install from a .msi
file, or maybe direct from the disc and not off our file server, or if maybe
the EU's laptop is just too old (and not enough memory, processor etc...) to
handle 2007 apps.

very cool. I did have explorer open (I needed to get to our file
server to
get at the Project .exe), so that may have been it. I'm out of time
today,
but will regroup for tomorrow and will post an update.

Thanks again for all you help!

Hi Jim,

Quick google search turned up the following:
-----------------------------------
This error occurs when the installer cannot write a file to the
C:Config.msi folder for some reason. A common cause is that a Windows
Explorer window is open that locks this folder. Clicking retry will
usually allow the setup to continue. Close all open applications and
restart the installation if the "retry" method does not work.

thanks, but that doesn't appear to be the issue. I was actually
logged
on as
the local admin of the machine, so I should have rights.

I may try installing it via the end users log on, as the EU is also
a
member
of the local admin group.

Hi Jim,

Just as a guess -- are you logged in as a user with Administrator
rights? In most cicumstances, adminstrator privleges are required
to
install software.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hello,
I searched around a bit but didn't see a post relating to my
issue.

I'm trying to upgrade MS Project from 2003 to 2007. Laptop is
running
XP.

I selected "upgrade" over "custom" at the prompt, and after a
bit I
get a:

"Error 1303. Setup cannot access the folder c:\config.msi.
Verify
folder
exists and that you have sufficient permissions to update it"

For the heck of it, I hit "retry", but that didn't fool anyone.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jim
