Re: Project 2002 to 2003 Error

Hi Rod,

We have upgraded the SQL Server Database for Project 2002 to be compatible
with Project 2003. This has been done using the scripts and information at
the following web site:-
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=64AD547A-99F1-43DA-845F-25E7DFB92356&displaylang=en

This leads us to believe that we should be able to use the Project 2002 AND
Project 2003 client on this single SQL Server database for MS Project data.

The issue is that we are having the error mentioned previously and losing
Assignments when the Project is saved with Project 2003. It appears that the
linked Resource Pool may be the problem. The problem does not exist when the
project uses it's own resources.

Thanks,

Steve.

Are you sure? I didn't think older versions of Project could save to new
versions especially as I though 2003 re-arranged some tables.

If you create a new DSN for a new database, can Project 2003 create the
tables again and allow you to read and write to it OK?

Hi Rod,

Thanks for the info. The SQL Server database was initially created based
on Project 2003 so the tables already exist and are not the issue.

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

When saving your first Project 2003 schedule back to the database,
Project 2003 will need to update a number of tables and even add one or
two tables to update the structure for 2003. If your login does not have
permissions to do this, then that may cause the errors. Try logging on
as a user that has owner permissions for the project database and then
open then save a project. That should update the database structure and
from then all users should be fine.

Hi,

We have been using Project 2002 standard and have just upgraded to
Project Professional 2003. All of our project data is stored in a SQL
Server database. We simply open projects from and save to the SQL
Server database. We also use a single resource pool that is linked to
all projects.

This has been working for some time and no problem.

Now that we have upgraded to Project 2003 professional we are unable to
Save projects that have been created with Project 2002. Microsoft
Project comes up with the following error when the Save button is
pressed:

An unexpected error occurred during command execution.

Try the following:

- Verify that all argument names and values are correct and are of the
correct type
- You may have run out of memory. To free up available memory, close
programs, projects, or windows that you aren't using.

If we create and save projects using Project 2003 then no problem.

It is my understanding that Project 2003 upgrades any project that has
been created with Project 2002 when the project is saved.

The Resource Pool that is linked to the Sharer, and is opened
automatically when the Sharer project is opened, has been created and
saved with Project 2003.

Can someone please help with this. We are not sure what to do next.

Also is it possible that projects that have been opened and saved with
Project 2003 can still be opened and saved with Project 2002? i.e. we
have a mix of Project versions in the organisation.

Thanks,

Steve.
