Re: Organizing Project Plans

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Sunny --

In the future, please post your Project Server questions in the
microsoft.public.project.server newsgroup, as this newsgroup is closing
down. To answer your questions, I would recommend that your Project Server
administrator create two custom enterprise Project outline codes in the
Enterprise Global file. The first outline code might be called Division and
the second might be called Product Group, and each of these would include
the outline code values you specify. After creating these two new custom
enterprise Project outline codes, each PM would need to open every project
he/she manages, click Project - Project Information, specify a value for
each outline code, click OK, and then click Collaborate - Publish - All
Information.

From this point forward, your PM's could apply grouping on either of these
fields in the Open from Microsoft Office Project Server dialog (click File -
Open). Also, your Project Server administrator could add these two new
outline codes to each Project Center view in PWA, and then apply Grouping as
desired in each Project Center view as well. Hope this helps.

"We wrote the book on Project Server"

We have implemented project server 2003. Currently we have 20 Plans.
Out of the 20 plans
a) 10 plans belongs to 4 divisions (Information Technology, Research,
Products, and Field Operations)
b) 10 Plans belongs to different product groups (Project Management,
Program Management, BPR, Outsourcing, Six Sigma, Analytics, Modeling,
RFID, Mobile, and Internal)

Is there some way we can group these projects into 2 (folders or
Categories or views) so that the project managers will be able to click

on the top level and view the projects for that group.
in other words, can the project manager view the information in the
following format (tree structure similar to Windows Explorer view)
1) Divisional Plans
1a) Information Technology
1b) Research
1c) Products, and
1d)Field Operations
2) Major Products Plans
2a) Project Management
2b) Program Management
2c) BPR
2d) Outsourcing
2e) Six Sigma
2f) Analytics
2g) Modeling
2h) RFID
2i) Mobile
2j)Internal

If there is a better way of displaying the same information, please
suggest me.

Thank you

Sunny
