Re: NewsGroup reader for HTC Touch PPC WM6

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hey guys,

thanks for the suggestions, I'll check those out. But you're right, I'm using POP to get other mail accounts and Windows Live for my hotmail, which works really well. Currently, I am using Opera for RSS, which is good, however, offline working is just average and newsgroups access is very difficult, especially since my workplace does permit it, so when I am posting work related stuff on development websites, I have to wait till I get home to make postings.

Thanks for you help guys.

Kind regards

RickyP

You don't need a "NewsGroup reader" for WM6 because you can use
groups.google.com to read and post messages.

Yeah, but using that logic, you don't need an email client either, since
you can use webmail! ;-)

I use QMail (already suggested in ths thread.) It's nice to have a fully
NNTP-compatible client on board that automatically fetches all of the
unread messages from the groups you follow.

This information is taken from a previous thread on this NG titled:
"Best web/wap site for viewing usenet groups on PocketPC"

http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.pocketpc/msg/d478757a00b06

BTW there is another way to log into Google Groups with your PPC than
the
one you mentioned.

1. Try to "Sign in" as normal and when you find you can't sign in then
click on "Create an account now"

2. On the page you go to it says "Your Google Account gives you access
to
Google Groups and other Google services. If you already have a Google
Account, you can sign in here. Click on where it says "sign in here"
and
then you can sign in from that page.

Once you sign in on the third page you are also signed in on
http://m.google.com

Can't you just sign-in to m.google.com first, and already be signed in at
groups.google.com? Any time I go to groups, I'm already signed in.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION when using Google Groups on a WM6.1 PPC

With WM6.1 the word "Options" is not clearly visable when you are
viewing a
thread. You either have to hi-light the word "Options" by selecting
some
text about where the word "Options" is or just tap about where the word
"Options" should be.

Once you tap where it says "Options" then you get the choice to "View as
tree." Once you set up "View as tree" then you can reach any post in
question from the tree. Google remembers how you set it after that so
you
won't have to seach for the word "Options" again.

But if the post you are trying to look at is listed as read you have to
"sign out" to see that post.

And one more word of caution. When using groups.google.com the "Back"
doesn't always work as expected because sometimes it doesn't do anything.

But you can use "History" to go back to a previous page.

Ouch! I only use Google Groups on a PDA as a last resort, or when trying
to search for a very old post, but to each their own...
