Other annoying things

Losing skype icon on today screen on reset.
I havwn't seen that yet on my device (HTC TyTn II.) Are you running
any
3rd party Today Plug-ins that might be interfering? You might disable
them temporarily as a test.
TodayAgenda
Again, disable it for awhile and see if that fixes the Skype Today item
problem, and if so, report it to the software vendor.
No Wifi option in Inet sharing
True. If you really need that capability you could
try http://www.wmwifirouter.com.
Are there any smartphones that offer such capability natively?
No, but missing the item off the list is blatant proifiteering.
By who, do you think, is it "profiteering?" The developer of WiFiRouter
isn't paying off HTC or Microsoft to leave off WiFi functionality, and
neither MS nor HTC sell it as an add-on feature. By that logic, the
device's inability to function as a toaster-oven is also profiteering, an
example, no doubt, of the powerful toaster-oven manufacturers flexing
their muscle...
No number paste in text boxes
Sorry, I don't know what that means.
Touch and hold, Paste Special ... Number From Phone book.
Ah, my WM 6 TyTn II auto-suggests by contact name instead. If I wanted
to text you, I'd just type "Ja..." and any contact that had "ja" in their
name would pop up in a scroll list. Each additional letter would narrow
down the list. I don't remember how my WM5 Wizard handled it- I rarely
text, except as a reply to someone else's, since I have an unlimited data
plan but no texting plan. Email for me is "free" but I pay for every text.
No default divx
Correct. You'll need a third party player like Coreplayer
(commercial) or TCPMP (free).
Umm so a whole new player just to get a single codec or should that be
just dec..
Yes. WMP Mobile doesn't support add-in codecs like it's desktop brother
does. While unfortunate, it fits what MS considers the typical user
scenario- videos synced to the device via Windows Media Player on the
desktop get converted to .wmv at a device-appropriate bitrate.
Again, while unfortunate, it's really no different than media players on
other mobile devices.
Loosing keyboard back light in dark conditions when pausing in the
throws of typing
That's a device specific feature- you haven't told us what device
you're complaining about. Some devices can change the backlight
timeout, others can't.
HTC UNiversal
I've never played with a Universal, but a quick Google search came up
with this registry key:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\QKeyLedTimeout = 30
Use any PocketPC reg editor and try changing the 30 to 60, or whatever
timeout you'd prefer.
No colour slider theme change
Sorry, I don't know what that means either.
Colour wheel??
Oh, so you can customize the theme color by specifying the exact amount
of R, G, and B? Correct, WinMo doesn't offer anything like that natively.
All the extra input methods beyond keyboard and block recognizer
using up memory
Yeah, some others, like Transcriber, seem to use a little more
horsepower.
And are useless for me.
Then don't use them! They don't occupy any RAM if they aren't actively
selected. How is this any more an annoyance than, say, the Solitare
game, or Excel Mobile, which also only use RAM when in use?
If you mean the applets themselves are "wasting" storage space, they
really aren't- they're in ROM and occupy no user-accessable storage memory.
Occasional shuffle playing of the ring tone
I've had that on my HTC Wizard (would occasionally switch to the Wm
Default ringtone), but my TyTn II seems stable.
mp3 ringtone...
Are you running a cooked ROM? On my Wizard the ringtone shuffling only
happened with unofficial ROMs, IIRC. I've only use
"official" firmware on my TyTn II, so maybe that's why I haven't seen
that behavior on it yet.
phone book stealing by active sync over bluetooth
I covered that in my reply to your other post- you most likely
inadvertently setup an Activesync partnership (sync relationship)
which is unneccessary to transfer files via BT.
I paired the device. to save all the typing of 1234 pasword. No button
was pressed on the HTC which had any activesync yes/no option.
Activesync via BT can only be initiated from the device, and only by
hitting either the "Sync" softkey when paired, or by the "Sync via BT"
menu option in Activesync. IIRC, you were trying to transfer a file- you
don't use Activesync for that, you use File Explorer.
Then I
noticed the spinning arrows and the other person was doing something
on the laptop, I am not the controller of that keyboard...
You don't need "control" of the PC if you intend only to transfer files.
In File Explorer, tap and hold on the desired file and select "beam file"
from the pop-up contexual menu.
You would need control of the PC if you intend to sync- Microsoft
apparently didn't consider a usage scenario where one would want
to sync their device's PIM data with a stranger's PC outside the device
owner's control!
