Hi all, I have 2 ppcs that have problems. the first is a hp4150. Problem with this one is that I can send and receive mail but when I try to create a new a/c an try to send an e-mail a message comes up saying 'system administrator (this message is on the FROM line) - invalid message recipients' (on the subject line) The following recipients are invalid......then has the e-mail address I was trying to send to (in the text area).
Pardon my ignorance, but what's an "a/c"?
The e-mail message sounds like a typical "bounce back" message from an e-mail provider saying a message was undeliverable, and doesn't seem to be generated by your PPC.
This ppc
has an old version of skype installed that I use and hope isn't the cause
as I don't think the newer versions of skype will work on this model.
The other software I have installed that may be causing the problem
is Navman software but I use frequently.
I doubt either of these apps could interfere with the messaging app.
The other ppc is a hp4700 the problem with this one is that I can't send any emails at all (receiving is ok). Thought it may have been my router so went to a mates home and tested it there but the same problems occur.
Does anyone have any ideas as to the problem.
Not without a lot more information. Typically problems sending are incorrect SMTP settings, or trying to send mail through a foriegn server (one other than your ISP.)
I know the hp4700 has worked in the past because it used to belong a friend who sold to it to me when he upgraded.
Yes, but it worked with HIS e-mail settings and account, correct? I suspect your settings are incorrect- perhaps the wrong port setting, you didn't check "use authentication," etc.
For anyone here to troubleshoot, you'll probably need to tell us (at the very least!) who the mail provider is, and what settings you've entered.
The only thing I've added is tom tom.
Again, that's not likely to break the messaging app.
The 2nd problem with the hp4700 is that I can't install 'skype' on it. Message says something like 'not a windows or Microsoft application.' What really weird is that when my friend owned it he had skype installed and it worked fine. Tried to locate an old version of skype to see if it would make any difference but all the versions I've seen are current.
I'd really appreciate some help if anyone knows what the problems could be.
PPCs don't run Windows, but Windows CE (Windows Mobile.) Installing applications on these devices are handled one of two ways. You either execute an installer program, typically an .exe file, ON YOUR PC (with the device connected) and PC installs the program over Activesync. Alternately, you can copy/download the PPC installer (typically a .cab file) directly to the device, and tap on it in File Manager and it will install on the device.
The error message you were getting sounds like you were attempting to run the PC version of the installer on the PPC directly.
The .cab file download is here:
http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-pocketpc-cab
Download that file, copy it to your device and try to run it. If Skype isn't compatible for your device, you can try Fring at www.fring.com, an alternate VoIP provider who's all-in-one VoIP app lets you make and receive Skype calls as well as a number of other VoIP and IM providers.
Thanks
