Yes, you're absolutely right. I guess I'm looking at from a "no harm no
foul" perspective- if MS gives it freely to an OEM, (WM6 was licensed as
a
"no cost" upgrade for WM5 to OEMs) then a WM5 end-user illicitly
upgrading
to WM6 hasn't really cheated MS out of license fee, as opposed to, say,
if
a Dell Axim or HP iPaq user buys a $3 home-burned copy 2002-to-2003
upgrade
CD on eBay, since there WAS a per-device upgrade fee MS didn't collect
from
the OEM for tTHAT upgrade.
I've been trying very hard to persuade MS to offer end users WM6 licenses
for a fee (for example, $30) so that they can *righfully* use cooked,
unofficial ROM's otherwise not containing pirated / copyrighted stuff.
Hope they'll listen.
it'll never happen. a license implies some sort of service or at least a
contract.
do you think MS is going to grant licenses for somebody's home-brewed ROM?
