Hi Werner
I thought a good solution was to use the phone as a 3G modem and connect the Pocket PC
to it using Bluetooth. The only limitation is the speed of the Bluetooth. In
the UK my mobile phone service provider is 3G (at the moment) and whilst you
can connect a PC to the phone using a cable and use it as a modem you can't
do the same using Bluetooth. I don't think this is a problem with Vodaphone
or O2.

Charles

Yes, don't bother with HTC's current products if you ever want to play games or watch videos on them.
Unfortunately, currently, it's pretty hard to recommend a REALLY decent non-HTC and, therefore, not handicapped WinMo 6 phone.
I think you could wait for the new Toshi G910 - it's probably the closest to an ideal phone. Alternatively, you may want to consider going the separate PDA + phone route; for example, an iPAQ 214 (an EXCELLENT, up-to-date standalone PDA) together with a decent 3.5G phone like the Nokia N95-1. Via a BT connection, you can also access the Net on the iPAQ. And, both models are pretty cheap - and you get the best of the two worlds. (For example, Symbian allows for flawless (!) call recording & answering machines.)
I don't recommend i-mate's current phones either as they're still sticking with the severely outdated PXA270 CPU platform (the iPAQ 214 uses the PXA310, which is way better.)
ASUS' phones, on the whole, are pretty reliable, but there is nothing to write home about them - that is, no outstanding features like PXA310 or VGA.

I'd think twice before looking at ANY HTC products. Their new phones are severely handicapped by HTC's intentional ommitance of drivers that affect the entire phone.

"Charles Turner" <charles.turner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:OHdPl4PYIHA.1184@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxHi guys,
(FYI I'm in the UK)
My 3G contract is due to end March, 2008. 3G, apparantley, cannot offer
Bluetooth connection (to access a 3G Internet, so my PDA is of no use) and
the only carrier that I get a signal where I live is Vodaphone.
So I'm thinking of changing things, I use an ACER Pocket PC for all my
diary, contacts etc. it is indespensible (the last time I used a paper diary
was 1993) and it is VERY good, no complaints whatsoever.
I am thinking of buying a "Smart" mobile that uses Windows Mobile 6,
hopefully this will offer all the Pocket PC facilities I now enjoy, sync
etc. and then a SIM only + Data contract from Vodaphone (or possibly another
provider).
Any recommendations, what is the best, latest Mobile 6 device, 3G,
obviously, that is available?
Thanks in advance.
Charles Turner
