Too slow? By who's standards? These are only 2 megapixel photos. It
takes
no more than a couple second to copy one image so that's how long it would
take to view it. Obviouse the load time is dependent on the file size.
Instead of essentially crippling the application, I'd have it operate the
exact same as Windows Explorer and let the user be the judge of whether or
not they want to copy the file or open in directly from the phone. I
don't
see the logic in not allowing that functionality as it doesn't create any
problems and most people realize they are transfering data over USB so it
will take a while to load.
I'd suggest fixing this in the next version of Activesync.
There is no next version, other than perhaps some minor point
release to support WM7 or WM8 on XP, assuming they decide to
support XP with the next version of Windows Mobile. ActiveSync
has so much broken on it today, I hope they will focus on the big
issues, but I am afraid they have gone on to primarily supporting
Windows Mobile Device Center on Vista, which is even more riddled
with problems.
I agree with JJ and some standardisation is very much called for as well as
a speed increase. If it's good enough for my data transfer directly to my
memory card to be reasonably fast, the same should apply when going through
the pocket PCs hardware and this should only impose a minimal overhead. It's
my experience that companies often claim there will be no update to software
and then lo and behold a new version is released. I cant see them dropping
connectivity support for Windows XP (in some shape or form - perhaps an XP
compatible version of WMDC in years to come) or manufacturers like HTC would
be forced to use other operating systems on their devices,.Microsoft would
be cutting their own throats. I have worked in IT and I don't remember
anything else coming out of Microsoft that was of such poor quality as AS
4.5. If they want sales of Windows Mobile devices to increase, they need to
fix the weak link first!

The activesync connection does not support opening files (too slow,)
only copying them to the pc where they can be opened on the pc.
