Settings->Connections->Advanced->Select Networks: There is "Home" selected
for both the Internet and private network.
This is the problem, only the private network connection should be set to the vpn connection. The internet setting needs to be set to whatever your internet connection is.

Hi, I have HP iPAQ hx4700 with Windows Mobile 5.0 and I can't get VPN working to connect to a remote machine.
- The device has the latest ROM upgraded just an hour ago. There are no programs installed - the device is clean.
- WiFi is on and has a dynamically assigned IP. The Internet is working, I can navigate to the VPN server's IP address.
- Settings->Connections->Advanced->Select Networks: There is "Home" selected for both the Internet and private network. Exceptions - none, Dialing Rules - none.
- Settings->Connections->"Home"->Manage Existing Connections: The Modem tab is empty. The VPN tab has one VPN connection configured with PPTP. The Proxy tab - This Network Connects to the Internet is checked.
- I tap my VPN connection on the VPN tab, select Connect.
Sometimes, nothing happens.
Sometimes, it says immediately "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change settings, tap Settings". I tap Settings, the pop-up disappears and I have the sane VPN tab.
- The VPN server is definitely working properly.
Thanks!
P.S. I'd also appreciate a link explaining Windows Mobile network settings. I can easily configure RAS on my Win 2003 Server, but I wonder who came up with such a stupid network configuration UI on Windows Mobile!
