Re: Battery Dead Win CE 2002

Thank you, Sven, for the information. The only pieces that I'm missing
and want back are minesweeper and hearts. They're great tools to keep
me from falling asleep during meetings. I thought that they came with
the OS. Since I cannot find them, I presume that I downloaded them
from somewhere. You've explained the mystery. Thank you again.

The OS does not need re-installing, all of it that was on it, when
it first came out of the box, is in ROM. Also, only what was on it
when it first came out of the box is on it. Until WM5 everything
that was not in ROM was in volatile memory, and yes, it did
disappear when the battery drained completely. MS provided a backup
capability in ActiveSync for just such occurrences, and there was a
good third party backup trade as well.

Any other things that you recall were on the device were loaded
after it was purchased and first charged, some possibly from CDs
that came with the unit. Note that third party software could be
installed to flash cards, SD, CF, but the registry entries that
allowed them to work were in RAM, and were lost when the battery
died. They too would need to be re-installed, or the registry
restored from a backup.

I would investigate backups when you get everything re-installed.

I have an old Compaq iPAQ 3835 running PocketPC 3.0. The other day,
the battery ran down completely. After it was recharged, it started
up as if it had never been used before. It had lost the owner
information and every non-OS file. It also lost all the games except
solitaire. I'd like to reinstall the OS to make sure that nothing
else is missing, but the companion CD doesn't seem to have PocketPC
3.0 on it. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement OS CD?
I've tried contacting HP (Compaq) but they will not respond to me.

Thanks
Brian
