Did you also delete the PIE cache (from inside PIE or from SKTools)? It
might also take a lot of disk space. Also, check the size of
\Windows\Messaging

Disregard the \Windows size - it also includes files in ROM in tree mode.
However, when you do step into it, you'll only list files NOT in ROM.

In general, few apps store their stuff under \Windows (including
\Windows\Temp, which, in general, is very rarely used - if at all).
You'll,
on the other hand, WILL wnat to check out the following directories, all
in
the root:

\Temp
\My Documents
\Application Data

Also, give a try to generic cleaner utilities. I recommend MemMaid and
SKTools the best. See my blog for more info on specially the latter.

Hi,

I tried syncing my WM5 device with an exchange server and outlook and
produced a lot of duplicates - ended up with about 3000 contacts.

My device now refuses to do almost anything (including syncing with an
empty pst file) because the data memory is down to < 1 MB. Program
Memory has 20 MB available.

I thought that my PIM file is the reason but when I browse the device
from my PC I see the size of the PIM file is 16 MB, so there must be
something else taking a lot of data memory.

I tried the very useful
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/treesize.shtml
utility and it displays that the windows directory is 84 MB in size.
But when I look inside the windows tree, there is no directory > 1.5
MB, all data inside the windows directory seems to add up to about 3
MB only. I guess the pim.vol file really is in in the windows
directory and treesize cannot display it, but that still does not
explain what the other 60+ MB are being used for.

TIA for any hint on where my storage has gone!

Thanks for the hints, Werner! I bought SKTools right away. I wiped all
PIM data which released 16 MB to storage memory but still 32 MB out of
47,5 MB storage memory are being used.

Using the optimizers in SKTools did not do much. The only information
I can get about this memory chunk is in the Memory Usage tool. It
shows:

% of All: 100 Size: 32 MB File Size: 2.6 MB Name: \

The size of the

\Temp
\My Documents
\Application Data

folders only adds up to 3,5 MB.

Maybe I am wrong altogether and a PDA with 47,5 MB of available
storage memory usually never has more the about 16 MB storage memory
free? I remember differently.

I guess - although I have done this too often and I hate it - I will
have to hard reset my PDA and reinstall everything.

Thank you, Werner. I wiped all that PIE data and the \Messaging folder
was empty anyway. I still missed about 15 MB of storage memory. After
hard resetting, reinstalling all apps and syncing my PIM data I now
have 15 MB availabe which is OK. Just too bad that there was no easy
way to reclaim the memory.

Regards
DC
