IPAQ 3630 BATTERY...HELP!!

I bought a new battery for my Ipaq 3630 .The existing one was not holding a
charge for more than an hour .I installed the new one clipping it onto the
motherboard carefully and then left the Ipaq charging overnight..it didnt
charge up..on removing the mains lead the ipaq was dead...i reinstalled the
old battery..everything was fine..could the new battery be at fault,or did i
not perform some procedure afeter putting in the new battery...??...any
