Does Persistent Memory Wear Out?

Typical unconnected PDA functions are mostly read-only.
You'd be dead before you could manually input enough
data to stress the flash.
But when you connect to the web, all sorts of opportunities
to WRITE become available.
Surfing the web continuously writes the cache.
Doesn't a video player cache all of the data that passes
thru it? That's a LOT of writing persistent memory, yes? no?
Should I worry about the persistent memory wearing out?
Some programs allow
setting the cache to the SD card as an option to wear out
something that can be replaced.
Is there a way to create a RAM-based file store for
applications that write frequently?
Or am I just making a big todo about nothing?

Thanks, mike
