Errr, well, what i mean is that when im prompted to connect to a new
wifi access point, it says will this connect me to the internet or to
work, and i set them all to internet.
That being the case, will WM5 still choose wifi over 3g ?

Tell me, does the 'trick' you describe above also work if you set them
both to being INTERNET connections rather than being Work
connections ?
"Internet" is not an option on the Advanced Network settings, because you
are selecting how the device actually connects to the internet. (Unless
you, your manufacturer, or carrier added such a "network.")
In individual applications, like messaging, where you can select how the
app connects (i.e. "work," "internet," etc.) Work and Internet have
special meanings- Work specifies whatever you selected in "Programs that
connect to a private network should connect using:" and "Internet"
selects what is under "Programs that connect to the internet..."
