Re: Daylight Savings Time Patch.

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Thanks Rick - the capitalisation made no difference.

I copied the registry entries from my WinXP registry - a suggestion from
someone on the group. Obviously the WM5 and WinXP registries aren't quite
the same. I havent been able to find from anyone just what I need to add to
the CAB file (or registry) to get WM5 to recognise the West Australian
entry.

Hi, David

That's quite different from what I have on my PPC 2003.

1) I have HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Timezones - the z is not
capitalised

2) The subkeys of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Timezones are
numbers, not names

3) Each subkey has a TZI value that looks rather like the one below, and
one has a Display value as well. But none have any of the other values -
Dlt, Std, MapID or Index

Where did you get the format for the settings? Perhaps WM 5 supports more
than PPC 2003...

Finally, to make it work I had to change the TZ away from my usual one
(Pacific) and back again. On the PPC 2003 the settings for the current TZ
are in HKLM\Time:TimeZoneInformation. The stuff under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Timezones is a database of possible
settings.

Cheers

Hi Rick

Changing the time zone on the phone is not an option for me as I have
many multi time zone appointments and I use the 'visiting location'
heavily when travelling.

I've taken a look at the WM registry entries for the US DST changes as
well as the WINXP registry entry for Western Australia and have
constructed a registry entry for WM5. Its on my device but doesnt seem to
have had any effect. The registry entry file is listed below. I'd
appreciate you sending me your instructions or having a look at what I've
done to see if I've gotten it wrong somewhere.

Thanks

David

Hi, David

It looks like the easiest solution is for you to set the time zone on
the phone to one of the GMT+9 choices (e.g. Seoul, Tokyo or Yakutsk!)
until you switch back to standard time.

Otherwise, you'll have to edit your registry. I gave instructions on how
to do this in a posting in this NG on 12 Jan, titled New Daylight Saving
rules. If you want more info, please let me know.

I'm trying to get it to work for the new DST change here in Western
Australia which came into effect in December. Currently my phone time
is an
hour behind (ie not on DST) so that synchronisation will work
correctly.

I tested it by looking at the time difference between the local time
(Perth)
and the 'visiting' location which I have set to London for GMT. The
difference between the two is 8 hours and should be nine.

Also at synch time I would expect the time on the phone to be the same
as on
my desktop, instead the phone is an hour behind.

I did a 'soft reset' after updating the registry to make sure I was
picking
up the latest registry.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Hi, David

How did you test it? I used an app (PocketStars - highly recommended,
if you want a star-gazing app) that shows info about dates in the
future. It correctly showed that standard time will be in force on 10
March and DST on 11 March.

Not sure if this is the same one posted before that didn't work,
but here is the patch directly from Microsoft (seems OEMs weren't
working to get this out) to update the Daylight Savings Time on
your PDA.
