Many thanks for all your answers.
- I am not trying to sync with Outlook and in fact I don't have the
right version of Outlook installed.
- Turn off all the security. . . like you say this would be "a royal
pain"
- As I said, I saw the other thread, but what is A12 and what is AKU
2.2? I did try turning off "Enable advanced network functionality" and I
even got it to turn off without an error message, but it turns itself
right back on again! Followed some of the links provided and sounds like
fiddling with the registry might fix things. But not sure if this applies
to me or not; sounds a bit extreme; and also sounds like it will interfere
with my Com ports setup for communication with Bluetooth GPS and Bluetooth
dongle on my workstation.
- Best answer was from Clint. I disconnected the network (internet)
cable for safety sake; turned off Zone Alarm (free firewall); and attached
the PDA. It successfully connected and then synchronized for the first
time!
A good result but not entirely satisfactory. I suspect I must change the
firewall to one that can be configured to allow Active Sync to communicate
over the appropriate TCP/IP ports.
Any further thoughts or suggestions?
That is the answer. I had to allow activesync within zone alarm (as it
doesn't automatically pop-up like other programs do) in order for it to work
porperly. Just go into "program control" within zone alarm, and check off
"allow for all the options for the activesync program. It might be under a
different name like wcescomm.exe or something, but it should have the
familiar green circle icon.
Then you need to right click on the Network Neighborhood icon and click
properties. When you connect the PDA you should have a new network adapter
in there. Double click on this and click on the support tab of the window
that opens up (make sure your double clicking the right adapter, not the one
on your computer). Write down all the numbers here (ip address and network
mask etc). Then go back to zone alarm and ( I can't remember the exact
location of this) you need to add this ip address as a trusted network or a
trusted IP address. I believe it is under the firewall settings. I would
do a quick reboot, then plug it in and all should work correctly.
