Re: Axim Update

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Here is the exact process I am using.

I am pressing the power button. While holding the power button down, I
am pressing the reset button on the back on the axim, and holding them
both down for 3 seconds. When I let go of both buttons, the screen is
black, the screen that says: "Are you sure? To erase everything press
the contacts button, and if not press the mail button" flashes on the
screen for less than one second. I have tried to be really quick and
press it when I see it. I have also tried pressing the contact button
while I do the reset just to see if anything else happens. What the
hell... I have nothing to loose!!! The only thing it erases if the
calendar.

Thanks for asking that. That screen flashes, will not give the time to
press it. And when I say, it flashes, I mean it is on the screen for
less than 1 second.

I have hard-reset this axim probably over 30 times in the past few
days. I am doing it the same way I have done when it worked. All of a
sudden, it started doing this instead. I am holding down the power and
pressing the button on the back with my stylus. I have tried just
tapping, as well as holding it down for 5+ seconds. It is all the
same.

Any suggestions.....

And, is it possible the hard reset will not work? Today, I cannot tell
you how many times I have done it, but the past dozen or so will delete
most info, but all the owner info and tasks stay intact on the axim.

You've done it wrong. Are you absolutely sure you'vre pressed the
Calendar
button when it asked whether it can go on with the hard reset?

Okay, forgive my frustration in this note. Not only is my Axim now
worthy of the garbage can, but the post that I just got through
writing, disappeared into oblivion.

So again, I write. The Axim is not working at all. The A12 download
would not work. Something about missing files. I re-downloaded it
several times, still no results.

The ActiveSync 4.2 will not communicate with my PC. I plug in my Axim,
and nothing happens. Attempting to sync by way of the PC or the axim
does nothing. I un-install, re-install, repeat x4. Reboot PC,
install, un-install.... repeat! No change in results.

Do you think I have a lemon? I have been un-installing, re-installing,
etc... for 6 hours today. I don't have time to do this.

And, is it possible the hard reset will not work? Today, I cannot tell
you how many times I have done it, but the past dozen or so will delete
most info, but all the owner info and tasks stay intact on the axim.

Honestly, I think I am crazy. What do you do when you have all of this
happen? I don't have another $400 to spend to get a new one. And the
thought of going back to the "paper system" makes me cringe (at least
it is reliable).

A12 by itself will suffice, there's no need to install anything else.
Also,
I recommend ActiveSync 4.5 beta 2 instead of 4.2, linked from several
of
my
articles.

BTW, please do follow my blog, I've elaborated on all these upgrades
there;
for example, on the December 2006 upgrade (
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=1499&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 )
you haven't mentioned. You may also want to install it on top of A12.

Robert, after I posted the above note, I did a search for the A12
and
Activesync 4.2. I found this page:

http://pocketpccentral.net/software/upsoft.htm

Here is my question on this. I did find both of those downloads on
there. As well as a few others for the Axim x51v. What is the best
way to proceed? Should I start at the oldest update first, and
build
off that (oldest to most recent)? And, (I may figure this out once
I
download it), once I download, do I run the program, and will it
automatically synchronize with the handheld when I finally get it
hooked back up?

One more thing.... if I do another hard reset back to factor
settings,
do I need to re-download (or install) these updates?

Thanks a million!!!

Robert, thanks for the post! Where do I download the DELL firmware
version A12? Is it a patch? I also went back and looked, and the
ActiveSync version that came with my handheld was 4.1?

Robert Janik wrote:
Hi Amy,

did you download DELL firmware version A12 ? You have to be
carefull
to
choose the firmware for X51v (not X50v).
You should also install ActiveSync version 4.2.
