Actually, plastic isn't too bad. It's all the other chemicals in them. The
acids on the circuitry boards, the rubbers, flame retardants. . . etc etc.
All the computers have been moved to an external office, which was a room of
the house we've sectioned of with a glass panel. My father and brother go
out there to use theirs because there's an external door into the new
office. (We've had to use external office areas for the last 7 years. That's
when my immune dropped low enough to be affected by computers. When I just
had a PC we had 1 USB cable through the wall and my brother or Dad would
install my software for me.)
But now we've put a computer out there for me, and cords come through the
wall into the house, for me to plug in a mouse, monitor and keyboard, which
were aired out, washed, and carefully picked to save my getting very ill. So
when I want to use my PC, someone turns it on for me, and then I take over
my end. I also have an extra USB cable for my MIDI keyboard or PDA, and 2
sound cables to plug in my speakers and microphone.
At least this way I don't have to dread upgrades. For example, my DVD drive
bit it so I had to buy another one. Instead of dangers and scrubbing, airing
out, and praying routines, my brother can just put the new one in the box
out in the office, and I don't have to worry. Because the hole around the
cords is sealed as is the glass panel, no smells come inside.
Hope that explanation didn't confuse you. I have a diagram if you want it :)

I agree with Todd. Due to allergies (long story!), I had a PDA only for 3
years. Being able to use the Internet is important. Finally, when Dad got
ADSL and Bluetooth was a disaster, we found a way to get me a PC safely.
AND NOW I find out there is a cable connector from router to PDA! At least
I know if there was a PC death, I could find my way back online.
Are you allergic to PCs? Is it the plastic on them?
